Vineyards in Sussex are attracting global attention. Take a day trip among the vines sipping wine and eating culinary delights.

When you book one of our beach houses on a barely discovered stretch of the West Sussex coastline, coastal experiences nearby are endless from beach walks, watersports, golf days and more. But if you are looking for a day trip to a vineyard, this is also the place for you! Sussex has become one of the best regions in England for vineyards, with wineries all over the South Downs and attracting global attention. We have collected our top recommendations within a 30 minute drive from Angmering for you to choose from. Walk around the vines and learn about the art and process of winemaking, join a tasting experience and choose your favourite to take home. Some of the vineyards even have tasty restaurants to book for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

 

Kinsbrook Vineyard – 30 min drive

Kinsbrook is a family favourite. With The Kin Bubble bar & café (boasting sharing boards, charcuterie and antipasti) a shop, a gallery, and the newly opened Farmhouse it is a fulfilling day out. And if you book on Sunday you may be lucky to enjoy an afternoon of live music with their Sunday Sessions setup.

Wiston Estate – 20 min drive 

Wiston offers tastings, tours and events and has recently opened a restaurant. Book in for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the delicious and locally produced culinary delights at the newly opened Chalk Restaurant. Walks around the footpaths of the south downs surrounding the estate are a great way to build up an appetite!

Nyetimber – 30 min drive

The vineyard planted its first vines in 1988 creating sparkling wine grapes. Nyetimber wines have gone on to achieve global acclaim, winning international awards and blind-tasting competitions, as well as being recognised by some of the world’s most celebrated wine experts. Book-in-advance Open Days including wine tasting and tour with the chance to buy the finest wines at cellar door prices.

Nutbourne Vineyards – 30 min drive

Nutbourne is a family run, boutique vineyard and winery. Surrounding the vineyard you can find wildflower meadows, alpacas, lakes, places to picnic and stunning views along the self-guided vineyard trail. They also follow the best sustainable practices possible in everything they do in biodiversity, carbon neutral in the vineyard and reduced footprint from production and distribution.

 

Ridgeview Wine Estate – 40 minutes drive (we know we capped it to 30 minutes but we have to include this one!)

As with the other vineyards expect tasting and tours. But what is most exciting is that Ridgeview Wine Estate has just opened its new al fresco, year-round restaurant The Rows & Vine, in August 2022. A dining experience where you can sip, savour and celebrate while taking in the breath-taking views of the South Downs.
